Iracema de Carvalho Araujo still suffers the consequences from the violence committed against her during childhood. Iracema was tortured and saw her mother also get tortured when she was 10 years old, during the military dictatorship period that ruled Brazil from 1964 to 1985. Never seeing her mother again after that, Iracema considers herself an "orphan of the dictatorship". On March 31st, 2019, Brazil's elected president and former military Jair Bolsonaro intended to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the military coup.
